Where Is Android Lollipop?

The latest version of Android which is Android 5 Lollilop has been around for a while now but not making impact yet. It was launched last year’s November and not yet widely distribute. Data released on the Android Developers Dashboard shows that Android KitKat released in 2013 accounted for 39.1% of the Android market share. Steadily, KitKat has risen from 25% in September to 30.2 percent the next month and 33.9% after.

The data which was collected during a 7-day period ending on January 5, 2015 did not include Android Lollipop at all. It was however stated that versions with less than 0.1% distribution are not shown. This faces us with the fact that Lollipop has failed to reach 0.1% share in the first 2 months and more. However, according to ZDNet, KitKat hit 1.1 market share in the first month.

Lollipop has been promoted with a brand new design called the Material Design. Google started deploying it to their Nexus devices in November and the distribution has been on the low key since then.

Android Jelly Bean which was released in 2012 still has the largest cut of the market share at 46%. Poor distribution of newer Android versions could be blamed on the fact that most old and low-budget phones cannot upgrade their Android versions. So, users are stuck with older Android versions.
