WeChat, developed by Tencent in China, is an app for chatting on mobile devices which also features social features like mentioning friends in pictures, sharing photos with friends (Moments), shaking phone to meet new friends etc.
The application was initially launched as Weixin in China in January 2011, and re-branded as WeChat in April 2012.
With WeChat, you can chat with your friends instantly via voice messages, texts, or images. You can also create group chats to chat with several friends together. Video Calls are aslo supported on WeChat versions 4.2 and up. There are also free WeChat stickers you can download to spice up your chats.
WeChat Registration is completed through Facebook Connect, email, mobile phone SMS/VM, or Tencent QQ. Unlike Whatsapp, WeChat won’t show your phone number for your contacts to see. Instead, your WeChat contacts will see your WeChat ID and WeChat name.
WeChat works on iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Symbian and BlackBerry devices. It’s free to download, install and use WeChat. However, you may need to pay your carrier for internet service.
