Microsoft and Google Set To Use the “Kill Switch” Feature

The organizations affirmed the dedication, which was noted in a report Thursday by the Secure Our Smartphones Initiative headed by the New York state attorney general with authorities from San Francisco and London.

The coalition of more than 100 chosen elected  and law enforcement authorities from significant urban areas said this implies the three primary cell phone stages will soon include the feature as a major aspect of an exertion to check a pandemic of robberies.

The report said Google Android and Microsoft Windows Phone will include the feature — which permits a client to deactivate a stolen handset — after Apple began including it a year ago.

Google affirmed the news Friday without giving a date to the new feature.

“Yes, the next version of Android will include a factory reset protection solution to help deter smartphone theft. We will be releasing more details shortly,” a representative said in an email message.

Microsoft said in a different articulation it will present the peculiarity in front of the versatile business deadline of July 2015.

“The new theft deterrent features will be offered as an update for all phones running Windows Phone 8.0 and newer, though availability is subject to mobile operator and phone manufacturer approval,” Microsoft Vice President Fred Humphries said.
