A friend of mine stressed himself during the sim registration process in Nigeria years back only to wake up yesterday to realize he can’t make calls on his line anymore simply because his sim card registration failed. Now, he is stucked in a village where he can’t even find where to re-validate his line. Don’t you think this might have been avoided if he was able to check his sim registration status before traveling?
Well, if you don’t know, you can easily check if your SIM has been registered or not. As at the time of publishing this post, MTN and Globacom Nigeria allows you to check your sim card registration status via sms. Airtel sim registration confirmation is done by dialing a ussd code. To check Etisalat sim registration status, you will need to dial a number and listen to the voice prompt.
For Glo, text “Reg” to 746 without the quotes.
For MTN, text “Reg” to 789 without the quotes.
For Airtel Nigeria, dial *746#
For Etisalat Nigeria, dial 746. Press 1 to select english, then press * to confirm your sim reg status.
If registered, Glo will send you a text similar to : “Your SIM 234805…………….has been registered. Thank You“.
That’s all.
SIM card registration in Nigeria was officially launched on 28 March, 2011 following concerns raised by security agencies, as far back as 2008, to Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) over inability to trace criminal elements who use unregistered phone lines to facilitate their criminal activities.
It also facilitates the collation of data by the Commission about phone usage in Nigeria. Besides that, it enables the commission to effectively implement other value added services like Number Portability among others.
Have fun!
