Be careful about the excuses you give for not meeting up on Whatsapp. Your contacts on the app could soon track your location in real-time.The feature, known as ‘Live Location Tracking’, was spotted in the beta version of the messaging app and Android and iOS.It would allow users to see the location of their friends while in a group chat, potentially exposing any white lies about your whereabouts.
Whatsapp already allows users to share their location, but real-time tracking take this one step further. Users will have the option to enable Live Location Tracking for a period of time.
It appears there will be one-, two- and five-minute options available.
To reduce privacy concerns, WhatsApp users will need to manually opt in through the app’s Settings menu. The feature is expected to be disabled by default when it arrives. It was first spotted by Twitter userWABetaInfo. It follows news that WhatsApp is working on a tool that would allow users to edit and even recall sent messages.
